Russell Hayward an experienced restaurateur in Dallas has opened up a great cafe/wine bar in the Design District. They roast their own beans and use a finely tuned Synesso to brew their coffee.  Their shots are stronger than most because they use 22 grams of ground beans as their standard shot. Their coffee is syrupy and depending on the bean floral and sweet verses a more traditional espresso taste. The one thing that I liked here is the experience of the baristas. The head barista Mike Mettendorf has “Coffee Sommelier” on his business card. Their latte art is very good, and combine this with great coffee and a wonderful atmosphere, this is hard to beat.   They would get a 9.0 on coffee if all their barista’s are as well trained and experienced.   Now that I have been there 5+ time, I see some variations from shot making on the same day.   But their overall team is very good and will get better with time. At Ascension, they also serve pour overs, cold drip and many varieties of espresso drinks.   Try our their food too. It is simple, fresh, fast and if it is supposed to be served warm or hot, it will be.   This is a definite place to go to in Oak Lawn or if you are ever close to downtown or in the medical district area. This is my new favorite in Dallas, the service more than matches the coffee
