Sip Stir Cafe | Uptown – Dallas, TX

on November 18 | in Coffee & Cafe Reviews, Dallas, Texas | by | with No Comments

Sip Stir is a hip cafe located in the Uptown West Village Area. The co-owner Kim Trang is from the hip LA Hollywood area and as such has brought with them coffee beans that are roasted by J. Gursey.

Kim informed me that J. Gursey beans are supplied to SLS and a couple other haute hip places in LA. J. Gursey website claim “sourced soley from the top half percent of the world’s premium plantation beans” I am not sure what that statement says. But the expresso blend was over roasted and acidic. The packaging of the bean is nice with a wax seal. The marketing of the beans sounds good. But as a coffee lover, there are many West Coast beans that are far more engaging and complex.

This is a convenient coffee place that is easy to get to. It has a good amount of interior and exterior seating. The place is decorated nicely.

While they have 2 Kyoto Style drip set ups and a La Marzocco, the same challenge applies to this cafe as well as many others in the emerging coffee scene in Dallas. The latte art is not up to snuff, and the machine is not dialed in. Thus my extraction was watery with little or no crema.

This is not a place to geek out on coffee because the baristas are not there yet. But if you are there for a cup of joe, it is easily to get to.
